A Lovely Day in Sweden

This morning, we got to the airport super early to get breakfast. I had a bacon, egg, and tomato sandwich, and it was spectacular. In fact, so good that I did not take a picture of it. Instead, here's my first picture from Sweden: A field of flowers as seen from the car. 

Our dear friends from Spokane are hosting us for the weekend and were so kind to pick us up from the airport. After a delicious lunch at their beautiful home, we strolled through the little town of Waxholm before taking a ferry over to Stockholm. Waxholm is quite picturesque. 

The ferry ride took about 45 minutes, and we passed by a bunch of cool looking islands (apparently, Stockholm is made up of 30,000 islands!). But the window of the ferry was far too dirty to take decent photos. The one I did take of a clipper-like vessel didn't turn out that great. 

We landed right in a busy part of Stockholm, and it was gorgeous all around. 

We strolled around and enjoyed the greenery on a rather sunny day (forecast for the rest of the weekend is a bit more rainy).

Funny to see TGI Friday have such a prime location (at the end of this fancy little park). The surrounding neighborhood is an upscale, posh part of the city. Saw lots of people all dressed up and plenty of high-end stores. I think this area is close to my aunt's old office! We will explore more tomorrow. 

Tomorrow is also the Stockholm Marathon, so I expect it'll be a bit crowded down there. But should be fun anyway. 

Then we caught a train back to our friends' house and got to see more of the outer parts of Stockholm. 

It's about a ten-minute walk to their house from the train station where we got off, and it was a very pleasant little stroll. Check out the views. 

Dinner tonight was a fun BBQ and more delicious food. It smelled, looked, and tasted fantastic. 

I'm enjoying Stockholm much more than Amsterdam already! Crazy that tomorrow is the halfway point of this trip already.
